I learned something today…

133 views No Comments

Not be cliche’ or anything, but since we are in Colorado. I learned something today (and by today, I mean yesterday, but I was busy and didn’t feel like writing this yesterday. I do cling to the adage, “Put off until tomorrow, what you don’t want to do today”. I’m not sure who said it. Could’ve been the neighborhood pothead, but I digress…). So yeah, I learned something today. Not only is there a fine line in some tech terminology, but dudes, some folks get pissed, I mean PISSED when you slip up and cross that line.

I’m trying to think of a good example to use to make this easy to follow…Okay, I got it. Let’s say you are a Web Designer. Then you would be someone who designs layouts and structures them appropriately, not to mention designing graphics, logos, etc., for a website. Now the fine line here exists, between Web Designers and Web Developers. You see, if you are a Web Developer then you are tasked with, and specialize in the coding of the website (an artform in and of itself), and the microcosm of minute that comes with that. The subtle intricacies of a Developers job are not to be undersold. I would not ever do that. Though I might accidentally infer or imply that Designers and Developers were interchangeable terms. That I might have done. In the post 7 Websites No Website Developer Should Be Without

Some of you may have seen it.
Fail

To err is human, and alas, my humanity is shown, for I have erred. We misinterpreted the definitions, as we do both here at Arbenting (as was covered by my wonderful partner so I won’t go over that much again.). So our bad. We do apologize to anyone whom we may have offended with our blunder, by suggesting design sites were necessary for Developers we were in no way trying to diminish your work or say that you should do more. That was not our intent.

Now, to those of you who we know we offended because you left us feedback saying something…well, along those lines. We do appreciate all the feedback that we get here at Arbenting, and we do value everyone’s opinion and evaluation. Some of the comments we got were very cordial, and kindly informed us that we had made an error that they would like to draw our attention to this mistake. Thank you for that. We again, are always looking to learn from our mistakes and grow, especially being the new blog that we are. So your discerning eyes and words are very much appreciated.

Having said that, some of the messages we got were less cordial, and brashly informed us that we may need to see to our heads which apparently had been lodged somewhere, surely uncomfortable. It seems you were only looking to our well being, and for that, I humbly thank you. It is surely a disagreeable position to be in, as you no doubt know, judging by your posts. Furthermore, thanks for reminding me how even though technology is a wonderful, marvelous thing, it has crippled people’s ability to communicate reasonably and respectfully online. Machines don’t have feelings, so it’s easy to not take any kind of those into account when you are communicating through one. It’s easier to lazily and cowardly slouch behind the anonymity of the cyberspace void of humanity. Perhaps I’m being too hard, after all, I do know where your heads at. And the other half of that quote earlier does mention how divine forgiveness is.

But, hell, we’ve already established I’m flawed. I guess I learned something else today. Huh.

Thanks again for the love and the critiques! Please keep it coming, and we will too.

Peace.

Rob
