Inspiration in Purple

Inspiration in Purple

Inspiration comes in all sorts of forms and from any number of varying sources. It can move us to masterpieces, or simply stir us to smile. But can the source of inspiration, depending on it’s color, control how it inspires? Meaning, if the source of inspiration was primarily of a certain color, then would it inspire towards concepts or elements that are generally associated with that color? Can this kind of associative inspiration even be possible? Colors are chosen very carefully in design, due to the attachment of emotion and tone that they carry. So wouldn’t it follow that the same would be true of that colors presence in inspirational sources? That they would transfer these same emotive associations when acting to inspire?

In our Inspiration in Color series we present a bit of an inspirational experiment. The series of posts, which have been focused on images that are primarily of a singular selected color, finds itself winding down. Inspiration in Purple, features a wide range of wonderful works from the design world aimed at doing two things. Inspiring you overall, but also seeing if that inspiration tends to steer towards aspects associated with the color purple. Envy, sensuality, creativity, wealth, ceremony, mystery, wisdom, arrogance, gaudiness, pride, romanticism, are all common associations with the color purple. So where will this inspiration lead? Only you can tell…

  4. @Matt – lol I’ve never tried Penta water, I just liked their purple bottle.

  5. Im very fond of the MyNighLife logo which is strange because the chunky font is totally not something i would even consider using usually. But with the background and the whole atmosphere is gives off, it just seems to really work.

Also like th Purple radio poster, totally cool, love that a lot.

Fav photo is Purple Haze, the tree. What a stunning image, beautiful. Purple Rain is also stunning.

I do like the purple, mauve hues, they can look so dramatic and beautful.

Great collection again here, always love seeing what you come up with next.

    Keep it up.

  6. @Graham – I’ve always felt the same way about the MyNiteLife logo. The style isn’t something that would normally appeal to me but I’ve always loved it regardless.

And I agree, Purple Haze is absolutely amazing! It makes me want to dance under the tree in the leaves :D .

I’m also a fan of purple and was really surprised how difficult this one was to put together. There seems to be a scarcity of purples/violets/mauves in design right now.

  7. Wow…purple being my favorite color I am loving all of these! Also being a cat fan I like the Krazy Kat Music logo. =)

I think we’d all be dancing under the Purple Haze tree! Where did the purple poison bottle come from? I like that one too!

    Thank you for sharing these!

  8. Thank you for featuring my website. :) It’s appreciated so much!

I also really like the Krazy Kat Music logo. The purple poison bottle is linked to the original image, so if you click on it you’ll be taken to the artist’s page.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

  22. I love the Deep Purple and Purple Haze. Isn’t it amazing how color can affect our moods? I’m feeling passionate and creative after looking at all the purple here! Because colors are so powerful, marketers have to choose their colors wisely in ads and marketing materials like business cards, Web sites and brochures. Even babies react to color – see this Design & Print blog post http://designandprint.wordpress.com/2008/11/20/carefully-choose-your-marketing-colors for more about the babies.
