Wednesday Web of Inspiration: Magic the Gathering

The new Wednesday Web of Inspiration has begun being spun, and for the inaugural run, we have decided to start things off with a little Magic. Magic the Gathering, that is. As longtime fans of this trading card game, the Arbenting duo has found the art of the game to be a great source of inspiration over the years. With amazing run after run of new expansion sets each containing a hundred plus card designs featuring rich fantasy art from some truly talented graphic artists, these cards are always a delight for the eyes.

Fantasy art provides such a limitless landscape for the imagination to run wild over, and the art of Magic the Gathering brilliantly demonstrates the boundless scope of this genre. Below is only a minuscule offering of the gorgeous gallery contained at the Magic the Gathering website. We have scratched the surface for you here, and encourage you to explore these amazing worlds of further for yourselves.

  1. Great series guys. This is where some true geekiness will show I think. I played Magic, and probably could still throw together a fairly solid black deck right now…

  9. Hi

Nice pictures, but two of them are of currently unreleased cards, therefore I am curious where you got them and if you have more? Names would be nice, too.

  10. @Dainis – Aren’t they! I’m very jealous of artists this talented :D

@EvilBernd – We got all of them from the official site (linked in the article). I would have included names but the site didn’t list them.

  11. do you guys still play magic? how did you get into it? one of my favorite parts is the art–we can have lots of favorites right? the game is too rich for one.

    awesome post; great choices.

  12. @James – Yup, we still play, though not as much as we used to. I’d like to play more :) . There’s really not a good story about how we got into it. Saw a starter pack in the store one day and bought it.

I just went to check out your site and love it. I’m on my way back now to dig a bit deeper.
